Nikolaos L. Zairis 

Nikolaos L. Zairis is a native of Lake County, Indiana. He attended Merrillville High school, has an undergraduate degree in law enforcement management, and holds a Master’s Degree in public administration from Governor’s State University. He is an adjunct professor and has taught at Brown Mackie College, ITT Technical Institute (Indiana & Illinois), and Governors State University. Detective Zairis is a 15 year veteran on the Lake County Sheriff's Department with experience in many areas of law enforcement. He holds 6 years of patrol experience under his belt. He served as a Narcotics Investigator for 4 years assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration and 2 years assigned to a local narcotics task force. In 2010, Nikolaos Zairis received the Life Saving Officer of the year award, and collectively has received numerous accommodations for going above and beyond the call of duty. He was promoted to Warrants Detective in 2011 where he serves misdemeanor and felony warrants and has assisted the U.S. Marshalls with the apprehension of some of their federal fugitives. Detective Zairis is a Hostage Negotiator with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department S.W.A.T team, a Department of Homeland Security District 1 Strike Team member, a certified Active Shooter Instructor and a certified CPR Instructor.
