Phillip Cook

Phillip Cook has been a police officer with the City of Gary police dept for 12 years. He has spent most of that time answering calls for service in the patrol division. For four of those years, Officer Cook was assigned to the Marine Unit on Lake Michigan; two years with the Gary Police Marine Unit and then two years attached to the Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Unit. He and his fellow marine officers patrolled Lake Michigan by boat and jet ski, enforcing Indiana’s boating laws and responding to rescue calls from boaters. He has also been assigned to the Supportive Services division working at the front desk of the police dept and prisoner transport detail. He was previously assigned to the Special Ops division as a member of both the Mayoral/City Hall protection detail and later the Crime Suppression Unit. Formerly an operator on the Gary SWAT team, he has now been a member of the Indiana Dept of Homeland Security District One Strike Team for the last five years. Ofc Cook is a field training officer and a certified instructor. He is certified by Louisiana State University and FEMA to teach their L.A.S.E.R. course (Law enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response). He also went to Georgia where he was licensed by Honda Corporation’s A.S.I. (ATV Safety Institute) to teach the ATV rider safety course. He has received letters of commendation from his various Gary PD supervisors and also Sheriff John Buncich
